Q: What is TobTax Compliance?

TobTax Compliance is Avior’s automated, cloud-based tax platform that provides excise tax processing for cigarettes and other tobacco products. It is designed to make tobacco tax preparation easier for tax filers.

Q: What can I do with TobTax Compliance?

With TobTax Compliance, you can prepare your tobacco tax returns for all major U.S. jurisdictions in a matter of minutes, while only paying for the jurisdictions that you need. Our platform enables the user to prepare and file their monthly tobacco excise taxes in the safety of the cloud and reduces IT costs by eliminating the need for IT development, maintenance, and support for tax processing.

Q: Who can use TobTax Compliance?

TobTax Compliance can process tax returns for tobacco manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and importers.

Q: Does TobTax work with my invoicing system?

TobTax Compliance works with almost all back-office invoicing systems, ERPs, e-commerce or financial systems.

Q: Do we need to provide data in specific format?

No, TobTax Compliance’s platform takes, curates and cross-references data from ERPs in different formats and is able to pull files from multiple back-end systems.

Q: Is there software to install?

There is no software for you to install. Everything is processed on TobTax’s secure cloud-based servers.

Q: Does TobTax platform validate inventory data using UPCs?

No, tobacco UPCs are reused by manufacturers, so there is no static universal UPCs table to use for validation.

Q: How does data exchange work on TobTax’s platform

TobTax Compliance’s user account includes two secure SFTP folders: dropoff and pickup. The /dropoff folder is used for user data file uploads and the /pickup folder is operated by the user to download output tax return files.

Q: What data is required for vapor tax and PACT Act?

TobTax Compliance accepts data in any format and multiple files. See example below:

Customers: Name, Street, City, State, Zip Code, Class of Trade

Inventory: UPC, Category, weight/Volume, Cost

Sales: Invoice, Customer, UPC, Quantity, Price

Q: Will I be alerted when failure occurs?

Yes, TobTax will alert you when an error occurs and what has to be done to remedy it.

Q: What if some of my data comes from outside my invoicing system?

That’s okay, TobTax’s platform accepts data from multiple back-office systems and manually prepared data Excel sheets.

Q: Do we have to change/clean data before uploading it to Tobtax?

No, TobTax works best on the most raw data possible. TobTax will curate, validate, and autocorrect the raw data based on profile configuration.

Q: My developer that uses our ordering system is tapping into QBO to update customer data with license info. One question we don’t know yet is about using QBO’s API to tap into a custom field. If we can’t use this, is it possible to use an existing field to input the license number in?

Yes, you can put the license number into any field.
