Indiana Tobacco Tax Code Changes July 1, 2016

Indiana changed tax code regarding cigarette tax and other tobacco products excise tax, effective July 1, 2016.

The definition of "cigarettes" changes to exclude tubes, wrappers, and cigarette papers. Starting July 1, 2016, tobacco distributors are not required to purchase stamps for these items.

Collection allowance of 0.0007 of the excise tax amount due on other tobacco products will be applied starting with July 2016 tax return (due in August 2016) if both the return and payment are filed on time. For periods ending or before June 30, 2016, the rate remains 0.006.
