FDA to Regulate E-Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products

The Food and Drug Administration announced on Thursday that e-cigarettes and other tobacco products like premium cigars and hookahs will be regulated in the same way the FDA regulates traditional cigarettes and smokeless tobacco.

The FDA action brought regulation of e-cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco and hookah tobacco in line with existing rules for cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and roll-your-own tobacco. The new rules take effect in 90 days.

The most troubling is that the new measure may require e-cigarette industry players to take their products through FDA approval process which most small vapor businesses can not afford. Under the new rules, e-cigarettes manufacturers will have up to two years to stay in business selling their e-cigarettes products while applying for FDA approval.
